Greeting and salutations traveller, we are happy to welcome you in our midst.
The project BTS (breaking the silence) allows medical students to learn sign language and expand their horizon by going on international exchanges where they can meet new people, hone their sign as well as foreign language skills. The project also serves as a help in learning about the Deaf community, their integration, needs etc.

BTS was initially conceived in France as a part of the training for the coaches of “SWEEL – Youth training for health and fitness”. Together we realized that there still exists the pressing matter of people with a disability being discriminated and so we decided that there should be a project for soon to be doctors where they could get an insight into this problematic and learn how to communicate with such people. We especially focused on the deaf and hearing impaired because they represent the second largest group of people with a disability .
The project began in 2013/2014 in Maribor (Slovenia). Our activities include the running of beginners’ and intermediate courses for sign language and preparing an international exchange during the summer months. This webpage is dedicated to the international exchanges and our blog.
